The ruins of St Mary the Virgin Church which was built around 1254. It was restored at least twice over the years but closed for the final time in 1973.
The Church is actually built on the site of an Iron Age Hillfort - the third largest in Glamorgan and was once a stronghold of the powerful Silurian tribe who inhabited this part of Wales before the arrival of the Romans.

The theme for this year is Planet vs. Plastics
The amount of litter / fly tipping I see is heartbreaking. I’ve included photos of some extreme examples and also the amazing people who are trying to make a difference, but it’s also just drinks bottles thrown on the floor, food wrappers discarded and cans strewn about.
I know I’m preaching to the converted here. Leave no trace is about passing through these beauty spots without anyone having known you were even there.
Why not make small sustainable changes while you’re out? Take your litter home with you and recycle it properly. Reduce your consumption of single use plastics by making your own packed lunch and use reusable drinks bottles like this one from @hydroflask - it also keeps your drink cool all day.
Let’s protect this beautiful planet of ours for years to come.

Trig points are concrete pillars, around 4 feet high and were built from 1936 onwards by surveyors at the @ordnancesurvey to begin the retriangulation of Great Britain, in other words, to determine the exact shape of the country. They are generally placed at the highest points, but not always…
Rumney Trig which stands at only 9 metres above sea level, is by far the lowest trig point I’ve ever seen. To give you some perspective, the Garth is 307 metres.
Following the @walescoastpath from Wentloog Avenue for 1.5km will get you to the trig. It’s a flat walk so perfect for the little ones. We also found loads of fossils and sea glass on the beach.

I’ve spent a lifetime hiking and walking, it was my absolute saviour during Covid? Remember those ...I’ve spent a lifetime hiking and walking, it was my absolute saviour during Covid? Remember those times? Mental.
Anyway, my life changed a lot last year, I was barely home and my free time was limited. I didn’t feel like I had the energy to get up and head out to the hills.
I barely hiked, never ran and also gave up on spin classes - which I randomly love. Fast forward a year, I’ve gained weight, my stress is at an all time high, I’m permanently tired and my exercise bike has become a glorified clothes stand.
These last few weeks I’ve started hiking again and am working on a project which has given me purpose. My body is aching all over and I’m off out again today with @wales_on_my_doorstep so god help my knees, but I feel so much better!
Let’s hope today’s route is better than yesterday’s 👀
